Do you know how to spot the signs of a concussion?

The Concussion Legacy Foundation is working with the City of Somerville to create a model community for youth sports safety.

It is an important step after a study on concussion diagnoses from Blue Cross and Blue Shield shows more kids age 10 through 19 are diagnosed with concussions in Massachusetts than any other state.

Guided by the Concussion Legacy Foundation, Somerville will help create best practices to be shared with other cities for concussion education and prevention.

CHA orthopedic surgeon Jason Freedman, MD, was asked to share a few tips, mainly for parents of child athletes, on how to treat and monitor concussions. He sat down with a reporter from Somerville Neighborhood News, a production of Somerville Cable Access Television, recently at CHA Cambridge Hospital.
