The goal of the Social Work Training Program is to provide excellence in teaching a broad range of clinical skills and to foster the development of professional and expert clinicians. The program provides training for masters and doctoral level students and fellowships for clinicians who have their masters degree in social work.
Program Objective
To promote the use of psychosocial and systems knowledge and approaches to maximize the health and functioning of patients and families throughout the life cycle. We emphasize the use of effective and respectful treatment that enhances the autonomy and strengths of patients and utilizes community supports.
Overview
The program provides:
- A curriculum that includes teaching psychotherapy skills and psychodynamic principles, with a perspective that encompasses the whole person within his or her cultural context.
- Clinical rotations in inpatient (child and adult); outpatient (child, adult, geriatrics and addictions); day treatment programs; primary care clinics; and on obstetrics, pediatrics and medical-surgical inpatient units.
- Training in fundamentals of clinical practice, including diagnostic and psychosocial assessments, crisis intervention, milieu treatment, home visits, case management, and individual, family and group psychotherapy.
- Fellowships in the Program for Psychotherapy and the Victims of Violence Program.
- Interdisciplinary seminars.
- Multidisciplinary supervision from senior faculty.
