CHA Names Laura Sullivan Chief of Family Medicine

Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA), an academic community health system serving Cambridge, Somerville and Boston’s metro-north region, has named Laura Sullivan, MD, its new chief of family medicine.

Widely respected by her colleagues and patients, Dr. Sullivan has built an exceptional reputation since joining CHA in 2006.

As chief of family medicine, Dr. Sullivan will lead efforts to support the department's growth, improve care for CHA's diverse patient population and train the next generation of physicians as part of the Tufts University Family Medicine Residency program based in Malden. She will also work to strengthen CHA's commitment to confronting health disparities and improving awareness around social justice.

Most recently, Dr. Sullivan served as the medical director of the CHA Malden Family Medicine Center and interim chief of family medicine. Prior to those roles she served as the medical director of the CHA East Somerville Health Center. Dr. Sullivan operated as a staff physician at both sites and has held many CHA-wide leadership positions including president and secretary/treasurer of the CHA medical staff. She has played a key role in CHA's transition to an accountable care organization and the implementation of the patient-centered-medical-home model of care.

Before joining CHA, Dr. Sullivan worked with various vulnerable populations as a locum tenens physician, in rural Washington state, the Massachusetts state prison system and Plumley Village Health Services, part of UMass Memorial Health Care.

Dr. Sullivan is an assistant clinical professor at Tufts University School of Medicine. She received her MD from Chicago Medical School and completed the University of Massachusetts Worcester Family Medicine Residency.
