CHA FAMILY PLANNING
Family Planning services are available through CHA's
network of primary care and women's health sites, including locations
at CHA's Cambridge and Somerville hospital campuses and in the community
at numerous community health centers in Cambridge, Somerville, and
Boston's Metro-North communities. You do not need to be a CHA patient
to access Family Planning services at CHA sites.
Family planning services include access to the
following medical services:
- Primary care and gynecology services
- Birth control methods
- Emergency contraception
- Infertility information and initial treatment
- Sterilization information and referral for treatment
- Screening and treatment of sexually transmitted
infections
- HIV antibody counseling and testing
Counseling/Educational Services:
- Education in reproductive anatomy and physiology
(how your body works)
- Education on the pelvic exam including the pap
smear
- Self breast exam instruction
- A complete discussion of all birth control methods:
what they are, how they work, their effectiveness, the advantages
and disadvantages of each, and the health risks of each
- Emergency contraception information
- Prevention and risk reduction information for
sexually transmitted infections including HIV/AIDS
- How to talk with your partner about using condoms
- Pregnancy testing and counseling services with
referrals to prenatal care, adoption services, or pregnancy termination
services, as the client requests
- Information about immunizations
The program also provides referrals to:
- Smoking cessation programs
- Substance abuse and treatment programs
- Social services
- Victims of domestic violence programs
- Puberty education for parents and children
Services are provided in the following languages:
English, Haitian Kreyol, Portuguese, and Spanish.
All other languages are served through medical interpreters.
Community Health Education Programs:
Educational programs are provided in public schools,
religious programs, community agencies, alternative education and
GED programs, after-school programs, detox and substance treatment
programs in the Somerville area.
Single or multi-session workshops are available
for parents, youth, women, and men on such topics as:
- Abstinence
- Acquaintance violence
- Acquaintance rape
- Birth Control
- Building Self-esteem
- Decision making
- Homophobia
- HIV/AIDS
- Puberty
- Reproductive anatomy and physiology
- Sexual harassment
- Sexuality
- Sexually Transmitted Infections
- Talking with your child about sexuality
- Talking with your child about HIV/AIDS

Providers and Locations:
Services are provided by family planning counselors
from Cambridge Economic Opportunity Committee (CEOC) Cambridge Family
Planning Program or by health counselors from CHA's Family Planning
Program. Services are provided at low or no-cost to patients that
qualify.
