Cambridge Health Alliance Physician Marie-Louise Jean-Baptiste, MD, Receives Community Service Award from Harvard Medical School
Cambridge, MA…Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA) physician
Marie-Louise Jean-Baptiste, MD, has received a 2009 Dean's Community
Service Achievement Award from Harvard Medical School for her work
with the Cambridge Medical Care Foundation. Established in 1999,
the Dean's Community Service Achievement Award recognizes individuals
who have made outstanding efforts to serve the local, national,
and international communities.
Dr. Jean-Baptiste is a fixture in the Cambridge community, having
served at several health centers and clinics throughout the city.
She currently practices internal medicine at the Windsor Street
Health Center and plays a critical role in improving health care
access for immigrant populations. In response to the health needs
of the Haitian immigrant community, she gained special expertise
in tuberculosis and HIV care. She offers group visits for patients
with diabetes, records health promotional messages for local radio
stations, and trains "volunteer health advisors" to promote
health in their communities.
As the new Medical Director of CHA's HealthCare for the Homeless
program, Dr. Jean-Baptiste will extend her advocacy efforts to promote
access for the area's homeless men, women, and children. HealthCare
for the Homeless uses a multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurse
practitioners, nurses, and social workers to provide primary care
to the homeless in the shelters, soup kitchens, drop-in centers,
and streets of Cambridge and Somerville.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Jean-Baptiste is an assistant
professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School. She is also program
director for minority affairs for CHA's internal residency training
program, leading efforts to foster a diverse and culturally competent
environment for medical practice and training.
Dr. Jean-Baptiste, who speaks Haitian Creole and French in addition
to English, is currently accepting new patients of all backgrounds
and insurances. For more information or to schedule an appointment,
contact the Windsor Street Health Center at 617-665-3600.
