NEWS FROM CAMBRIDGE HEALTH ALLIANCE

Cambridge Health Alliance Named to Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Honor Rolls

Cambridge, MA...Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA) announced today that it has been named to Harvard Pilgrim Health Care's second annual Hospital Honor Roll. Harvard Pilgrim also named the Cambridge Health Alliance Physicians' Organization to its seventh annual Quality Honor Roll for pediatric care. CHA operates three hospital campuses (Cambridge, Somerville, and Whidden) and more than 20 community-based health centers which serve Cambridge, Somerville, and Boston's Metro-North region.

Harvard Pilgrim's Hospital Honor Roll highlights acute care hospitals whose performance was among the top 25% of those measured nationally on a set of quality and patient experience measures. The 2008 Honor Roll recognizes 37 hospitals in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine, and Rhode Island. Hospitals were evaluated on processes for caring for patients with heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, and those having surgery. The scores were reported by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services on Hospital Compare and also include the Leapfrog Group's patient safety measures.

Eighty physician groups in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine earned a spot on Harvard Pilgrim's Quality Honor Roll, which highlights adult and pediatric physician groups that have achieved exceptional results in their approach to disease prevention and the treatment of chronic illness. Physician groups are selected based on clinical performance measured against national standards set by HEDIS® (Health Plan Employer Data and Information Set), a tool developed for the National Committee for Quality Assurance to assess the clinical performance of doctors and other medical professionals.

"We are very pleased to be recognized for our dedication to our patients," said Gerald Steinberg, MD, CHA's Senior Medical Director and Chief Medical Quality Director. "Cambridge Health Alliance staff, management, and its Board of Trustees are fundamentally committed to continuously improving the quality of care we provide and to do that at a cost that represents great healthcare value. These awards recognize our progress in fulfilling our mission to improve the health of our communities."

Harvard Pilgrim is a not-for-profit health plan that provides a variety of health benefit options and funding arrangements to more than one million members in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine. Harvard Pilgrim is the #1 commercial health plan in America according to an annual joint ranking of the nation's best health plans by U.S. News & World Report and the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA).
