Cambridge Health Alliance's CHA Malden Family Medicine Center Celebrates First Anniversary

Malden, MA…In June 2007, Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA) opened the CHA Malden Family Medicine Center, a state-of-the-art primary care facility, at 195 Canal St. This summer, the Center celebrated its first year of service to the Malden community.

"We are very pleased that CHA's efforts to increase access to primary care and fill a healthcare void in the city of Malden have been embraced by area residents and civic leaders," said Randy Wertheimer, MD, CHA's Chief of Family Medicine. "We look forward to strengthening our bond with the community and continuing our pledge to deliver cutting-edge, quality, and comprehensive medical care to patients of all ages."

The Center features a team of more than 30 family medicine physicians, including faculty and residents from the Tufts University Family Medicine Residency at Cambridge Health Alliance, a nationally recognized physician training program. "We recently welcomed an accomplished new class of eight first-year residents who bring a variety of academic and clinical interests to the Center," said residency program director Joseph Gravel, MD. "The residents join a staff committed to providing a personal medical home for patients that offers coordinated care."

Additionally, CHA has engaged in extensive community outreach efforts, working with Malden's local government and community agencies to assess health issues and develop projects to address community and public health needs. Notable initiatives include conducting a collaborative health assessment of Malden's youth; working with the Malden Public Schools to provide high-quality health education materials; and coordinating with Healthy Malden, Inc., to secure a state grant to assess disparities faced by Malden's Asian population.

Since opening in June 2007, the CHA Malden Family Medicine Center has expanded the services available to local residents. In addition to primary care for all ages, from children to seniors, orthopaedics, sports medicine, complementary medicine, and acupuncture are all now available at the Center. It includes three hospital campuses, more than 20 primary care and specialty practices, the Cambridge Public Health Dept., and the Network Health plan.
