Cambridge Health Alliance Psychiatrist Receives Award from the Massachusetts Coalition of School-Based Health Centers

Cambridge, Chelsea, Everett, Malden, Medford, Revere, Somerville, Winthrop, MA...Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA) announced today that Nancy Rappaport, MD, is the inaugural recipient of the Massachusetts Coalition of School-Based Health Centers' (MCSBHC) 2008 Outstanding School-Based Health Center Supporter Award. The award was presented at the MCSBHC's Third Annual School-Based Health Center Awareness Day, held recently at the Massachusetts State House in Boston.

MCSBHC honored Dr. Rappaport for her dedication to providing the most vulnerable children access to quality mental health services. "As CHA's Director of School-Based Programs, Dr. Rappaport delivers care to high-risk students in Cambridge, Somerville, Everett, and Malden by fortifying the interdisciplinary provision of services," said Jay Burke, MD, MPH, CHA's Chairman and Chief of the Department of Psychiatry. "Additionally, her clinical work at CHA's Teen Health Center, one of the first school-based health centers in the nation, illustrates her exceptional commitment to supporting the continuity of care between schools and health providers."

Dr. Rappaport specializes in issues surrounding school violence, cognitive behavioral therapy for traumatized adolescents, and safety assessments of aggressive students. She also serves as Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School.

The Massachusetts Coalition of School-Based Health Centers is a statewide membership organization designed to unify, energize and strengthen an independent network of school-based health centers (SBHCs) in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. By providing a central voice advocating for SBHCs, and facilitating knowledge sharing among SBHCs, the Coalition strives to mobilize the network of centers throughout the state to improve and sustain access to quality services for children and adolescents.
