Cambridge Health Alliance Community Program Teens in Everett Against Substance Abuse Awarded Tobacco Control Grant

Everett, MA…Teens in Everett Against Substance Abuse (TEASA), a community initiative of Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA), has received a $10,000 “Taking on Tobacco” mini-grant from Mass Youth Against Tobacco as part of a new statewide tobacco control and prevention program recently unveiled by Massachusetts Secretary of Health and Human Services Dr. JudyAnn Bigby and Department of Public Health Commissioner John Auerbach.

The award will enable TEASA to integrate tobacco control with other substance abuse issues and expand its efforts to mobilize the Everett community toward overall substance abuse prevention. The grant is one of 18 “Taking on Tobacco” education mini-grants awarded to youth groups across Massachusetts to encourage young people to stay smoke-free. “Taking on Tobacco” mini-grants and Mass Youth Against Tobacco are funded through the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and managed by The Medical Foundation.

Teens in Everett Against Substance Abuse (TEASA), a community initiative of Cambridge Health Alliance, is the youth component of Everett's Substance Abuse Coalition. The mission of TEASA is to raise awareness of the harmful effects of substance use and abuse by youth.

Cambridge Health Alliance, a regional healthcare system with three hospitals and more than twenty primary care practices throughout Cambridge, Somerville, and Boston’s metro-North communities, is a teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School. It also includes the Cambridge Public Health Department, Physician’s Organization (CHAPO), and Network Health, a managed Medicaid and Commonwealth Care plan. For more information: www.challiance.org
