NEWS FROM CAMBRIDGE HEALTH ALLIANCE

CAMBRIDGE HEALTH ALLIANCE RECEIVES GENEROUS GIFT FROM THE CAMBRIDGE SAVINGS CHARITABLE FOUNDATION

Cambridge, Chelsea, Everett, Medford, Revere, Somerville, Winthrop, MA…. Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA) announced today an exciting contribution to the Cambridge Breast Center (CBC) from the Cambridge Savings Charitable Foundation. The CBC is located on CHA’s Cambridge Hospital campus.

The Director of the CBC, Michael Wertheimer, MD, is very enthusiastic: “This gift from Cambridge Savings Charitable Foundation is timely, and we are most grateful. Since opening the Cambridge Breast Center, we have discovered and treated 45 new breast cancer cases in just the first six months,” said Dr. Wertheimer.

Since the CBC opened in September 2005, patient flow has grown steadily and visits are now at a level of about 200 patients per month.  As of February 2006, the CBC team had cared for over 1000 patients, and over 120 surgical procedures were performed during this period.

The generous gift is in the amount of $50,000, and the Center’s Director’s office will be named in honor of this contribution at a ceremony to be announced soon. The money will be used for further program development.

The President of the Cambridge Savings Charitable Foundation is very excited about the CBC. "We are extremely proud to support this award-winning healthcare system," said Robert M. Wilson, President of the Foundation. "Cambridge Health Alliance not only seeks to improve healthcare for the families and communities of the present, but also looks to the well-being of the future."

Dr. Wertheimer is committed to expanding the number of communities served by the CBC: “Word is spreading about the outstanding access and service we offer, and people are hearing about our compassionate staff. The patient base is growing both within Cambridge Health Alliance and well beyond,” shared Dr. Wertheimer.
