Lukasz Babiarz, Harvard Medical School

Lukasz was born in Lancut, Poland. He received his undergraduate degree in Neuroscience and Economics from Johns Hopkins University, his business administration training at Harvard Business School, and his medical education at Harvard Medical School. Lukasz looks forward to a career in Radiology. While in medical school, Lukasz looked at the imaging of carotid artery atherosclerosis and future stroke risk. His work resulted in multiple conference presentations and publications. As a part of his joint-degree MD/MBA training, Lukasz completed a general hospital management internship at the Massachusetts General Hospital and later worked on optimizing screening mammography capture rates. He established MedEQS, a not-for-profit company, which successfully delivered donated clothing and first aid supplies to a Ukrainian orphanage. Lukasz also created a web-based stroke imaging tutorial and served as the "neuroradiologist on call" for his medical school's nervous system course. After completing his year with us Lukasz will move to Baltimore, Maryland where he will start his training in Radiology at Hopkins. He enjoys sailing, hiking, and photography. He is fluent in Polish.

Lilit Garibyan, Harvard Medical School

Lilit was born in Yerevan, Armenia. She moved to US with her family in 1991. She received her undergraduate degree in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics at UCLA. She looks forward to a career in
Dermatology. As an undergraduate at UCLA, Lilit volunteered as a interpreter for Armenian patients at UCLA medical center, worked as a security officer for UCPD, did research on hyperthermophilic bacteria and played basketball on the UCLA Armenian basketball team. She moved to Boston in 2002 to start her MD-PhD training at Harvard Medical School. She received her PhD degree in Immunology working on Common Variable Immunodeficiency (CVID). She has published numerous journal articles and review papers in areas of immunology, genetics, and dermatology. Her ultimate goal is to become a physician scientist at a university where she can teach, practice dermatology, and conduct basic science research on immunologic bases of skin disease. After completing her year with us she will return to Harvard Medical School/MGH to start her training in Dermatology. Lilit enjoys watching sports, playing basketball, and spending time with her husband.

Ramez Haddadin, Harvard Medical School

I was born in Calumet City, IL, and as a child lived in Jordan for several years. I studied Bioengineering at the University of Pennsylvania, and enjoyed mentoring and tutoring as a student, and later became involved in the Admissions Committee. I graduated from Harvard Medical School, and enjoyed my involvement in the Student Council and Financial Aid Committees. I continued to mentor and tutor at Harvard through the Health Professions Advisory Committee for Harvard College students and the Patient-Doctor course for second-year medical students. As a medical student, I completed a year-long fellowship in glaucoma research. I discovered my passion for Ophthalmology, and plan to complete my residency in Ophthalmology and the Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary. It has been a pleasure to work at Cambridge Health Alliance. The patient and community-centered approach to care is very rewarding.

Nandini Mukhopadhyay, Harvard Medical School

I grew up in the beautiful coastal town of Brunswick, Maine and majored in Biology at Harvard College. After graduation I joined Teach for America and spent two challenging and wonderful years teaching bilingual 5th grade in a public elementary school in the Rio Grande Valley on the Texas/Mexico border. After completing my commitment, I entered Harvard Medical School where I was involved with student organizations addressing issues of cultural competence in medicine and access to healthcare for minority populations. I also cross-registered to take classes at the Harvard Graduate School of Education during medical school and hope to be involved in medical education throughout my career, both in curriculum design and instruction. After completing my TY at Cambridge Health Alliance, I will be a resident in radiology at Massachusetts General Hospital. In my spare time I'm a huge Patriots and Celtics fan and waste prodigious amounts of time on fantasy football. I love being able to contribute to the vibrant community we work with here at CHA and have had a great experience so far with our diverse patients and providers!

Courtney Reilly, UMass Medical School

I was born in Hingham, Massachusetts and went to Bowdoin College in Maine with a degree in Biology and Chemistry. After college, I worked at MGH for a year doing outcomes research comparing the effect of various prostate cancer treatments on quality of life. I then went to UMASS Med School where I was involved in free clinics, the student body committee, and leading various interest groups. I spent a semester in college in Quito, Ecuador volunteering in a public children's hospital and a summer during medical school volunteering at a pediatrics/ob-gyn clinic in Managua, Nicaragua. Last summer I worked as a camp counselor at Camp Discovery, a camp for children with severe dermatologic conditions. I am so excited to be living in Boston and to be working in an ethnically diverse community hospital with such a great group of people. I grew up a half hour south of Boston but only now am I fully experiencing Boston and its wealth of culture, sports teams, and amazing restaurants! Next year, I will move to Providence and begin my dermatology residency at Roger Williams Medical Center and hopefully eventually do a fellowship in Pediatric Dermatology.

Jeffrey Shackelton, Harvard Medical School

I was born and raised in Reno, Nevada. I graduated from Yale University with a degree in biochemistry. After college I attended Harvard Medical School. As a medical student I worked in an immunology laboratory studying cutaneous T cell lymphomas. My interest in dermatology, my chosen specialty, grew throughout medical school as I realized how much we can learn about our patients by examining their skin. I will be completing my residency at UPMC in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I am thrilled to be a part of Cambridge Health Alliance community for my intern year. CHA's unique and innovative approach to patient care and teaching makes it an incredible place to work.

Marie-Adele Sorel, Harvard Medical School

I was born outside of Washington, D.C. and graduated from Williams College with a double major in Chemistry and Mathematics. With significant interests not only in the scientific basis of medicine but also in health policy, I spent one summer working at the Institute of Medicine with the Pay for Performance subcommittee before entering Harvard Medical School. While at HMS I continued my work in public service through a policy internship at Health Care For All, research for the Hope Street Group (a California-based think tank), and co-directing a student group, ImproveHealthCare.org, which developed and facilitated education in health policy for medical students and other health professionals. During my third year, I joined the Cambridge Integrated Clerkship at the Cambridge Health Alliance, through which I benefitted from the curriculum emphasizing longitudinal relationships with patients and faculty mentors. It was during this year that I found my passion for Radiation Oncology, and I proceeded to undertake a research project as a Neil Samuel Ghiso Fellow in compassionate and palliative care studying the treatment of patients with brain metastases. I am thrilled to be back with Cambridge Health Alliance for my intern year before I move on to Georgetown University in July, 2010 to complete my residency training in Radiation Oncology.
