We see it as our professional
responsibility to provide excellent formative and summative evaluation to our
trainees across all three years of the residency. An evaluation committee
meets quarterly to review the progress of each resident. Residents meet
twice annually with the program director to review their evaluation folders.
Each house officer is paired with a faculty advisor who plays an advocacy
role and assists with curricular goals as well as career planning.
In addition to global
evaluation of all six general competencies at the end of each rotation, each
resident has a Learning Portfolio (see below) to document their progress in
achieving competency milestones. Residents regularly submit additional
materials to their learning portfolios that document their own developing
competence in other domains, such as reflective narrative, self-assessment
exercises, teaching materials and presentations and publications related to
their scholarly projects.
