THE MIGHTY MERMAIDS

The Mighty Mermaids are a group of six American Women - all in their 50s - who are among the fastest masters marathon swimmers in the world. Because one of them is a breast cancer survivor and has been treated by Dr. Michael Wertheimer, the group fundraised for the Cambridge Breast Center during their inaugural swim at the 2008 Trans Tahoe Relay, an 11.4-mile swim across Lake Tahoe in California and Nevada. They continue to win open water swims and fundraise for the Cambridge Breast Center. The Mermaids have been nominated as the 2009 World Open Water Swimming Women of the Year and ask for your vote of support.
