Does
cancer seem to "run in the family?"
Do you or someone you love have a family history of breast cancer,
ovarian cancer, or colon cancer? Will this increase your own risk
of getting cancer?
At CHA, we offer
state-of-the-art cancer screening and prevention services that can
help you take care of your family and take control of your health.
Come in for a full evaluation of your personal risk.
ABOUT OUR PROGRAM
We
help people who are concerned about cancer, and help patients/families
understand cancer. This includes analyzing your risk and providing
you with counseling and advice.
We can also
do genetic testing if this is recommended. Some new blood tests
can identify people at high risk for certain cancers.
Most importantly,
we work with patients at high risk of developing cancer to develop
personal prevention strategies.
ABOUT OUR TEAM
We
have an expert team that includes a nurse, nutritionist, geneticist,
social worker, oncologist, and surgeon.
Our geneticist,
Laurie Demmer, MD, understands all types of genetic conditions,
including those associated with cancer. Dr. Demmer comes from Tufts
Medical Center every Friday morning to see patients and families.
WHAT TO EXPECT
You
will find a warm and supportive atmosphere. During the first visit,
we will do an initial consultation. This lets us get a family history
and determine your risk factors. The visit may also include a physical
exam, genetic testing, and counseling.
At your second
visit, if necessary, we will review your test results with you,
discuss prevention and screening strategies, and provide you with
expert recommendations about your health and ongoing care.
PAYMENT
We accept all major health insurance. If you qualify
for genetic testing and are not covered for the tests, we will work
with you to help you find other ways of paying for the costs.
