HEALTHCARE FOR THE HOMELESS
HealthCare for the Homeless provides a suite of health care services
that is affordable, accessible and acceptable to homeless men, women
and children. A multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurse practitioners,
nurses, and social workers provides primary care to this population
in the shelters, soup kitchens, drop-in centers and streets of Cambridge
and Somerville.
The program operates and staffs three outreach clinics in Cambridge
at the Cambridge Salvation Army, the CASPAR Emergency Service center
and the Harvard Square Homeless Shelter. The CASPAR clinic is for
individuals suffering from the disease of addiction. In addition,
the staff provides family shelters in Cambridge with health care
management services. The staff also conducts inpatient rounds at
The Cambridge Hospital for homeless patients and assists inpatient
medical teams with discharge planning and treatment plans for homeless
patients.
